PVC sits between coroplast and metal. It is a proper rigid plastic sheet with a smooth matte face, so the print looks like a finished sign rather than a temporary one. And unlike foam board it does not care about rain.
When to choose it over the alternatives
Over coroplast. When the sign is permanent, or when flutes showing through the print would look cheap. PVC has a smooth solid face with no ribbing.
Over foam board. Whenever it is going outdoors, or anywhere it will get knocked. PVC does not dent the way foam core does.
Under Dibond. For very large unsupported panels, aluminum stays flat where PVC will bow. At poster and door sizes PVC is the better value.
It takes hardware
This is the practical reason people pick PVC. You can drill it, bolt it, add grommets, or mount it on standoffs and it holds. Foam board crushes and coroplast tears; PVC threads cleanly.
A note on large sizes
At 1/8 in the board is slightly flexible. Anything much past 24 × 36 will show a gentle bow if you hang it from two corners. Support it along an edge, put it in a frame, or mount it flat to a wall and it stays true. If it must be big and perfectly flat and unsupported, ask us about aluminum.
