A certificate is a small piece of paper doing a large emotional job. Somebody is going to keep it in a drawer for thirty years, or put it on a wall. It is worth getting the paper right.
The linen upgrade is the whole decision
Standard stock is heavyweight, smooth and perfectly good.
Premium linen (+$15 for the run) has a woven texture you feel before you read anything, and it is what people unconsciously expect an award to be printed on.
Fifteen dollars across a whole run is less than one picture frame. If these are being handed to people in front of an audience, spend it.
Blank lines or printed names. Both work
Leave them blank and hand-write the name and date. A fountain pen on linen looks superb, and you can print a batch now and use them over a year.
